Christchurch Climate
Whether you feel cold or hot in Christchurch will depend a lot on where you come from. What you can be sure of is that you will need clothing to handle warm dry weather in the summer (shorts or skirts and t-shirts and light cotton clothing) and cold wet weather (only occasional snow) in the winter (warm woollen jerseys/sweaters and socks, thick trousers such as jeans, a scarf, hat, and gloves, and waterproof shoes or boots, a waterproof jacket or raincoat and an umbrella).
Although a very mild climate by world standards, Christchurch can be very changeable. You may go inside leaving sunshine and 20 degrees Celsius outside, and leave one hour later with rain and 8 degrees cooler. During late spring and early summer Christchurch experiences hot dry north-westerly winds. These can be very strong, a few times a year at over 100 km/h.
